Headquarters Barbados Defence Force (BDF) is pleased to announce its partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados Inc. in observing May Measurement Month (MMM).
MMM is an annual global awareness campaign that puts the spotlight on increasing access to blood pressure screening as the most effective ways of reducing hypertension’s adverse toll on health. This movement is led by the International Society of Hypertension and endorsed by the World Hypertension League, and it is rapidly becoming the world’s largest public blood pressure screening project.
Hypertension currently causes approximately 9.4 million deaths worldwide each year and this figure is expected to rise, given an expanding and aging global population. Because hypertension often fails to show any noticeable symptoms, persons often ignore monitoring this important and readily obtainable measurement.
During the month of May members of the BDF will be educated about the risks associated with hypertension and actively encouraged to get their blood pressure measured.
