BDF’s New Chapter Set To Purpose

The Barbados Defence Force marked the appointment of its sixth Chief of Staff, Commodore (Cdre) Errington Shurland, with a Handover Ceremony at St Ann’s Fort, the Garrison. Cdre Shurland, is the Executive Director of the Regional Security System and the former Deputy Chief of Staff BDF, serving for over 30-years.
A graduate of the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth England, and the Command and General Staff College of the United States Army, Fort Leavenworth, Cdre Shurland will be the first naval officer to command the BDF.
In addition to a Master’s degree in Maritime Administration from the World Maritime University in Malmo, Sweden, he has represented Barbados at the Organisation of American States, the Inter American Defence Board, and the International Maritime Organisation and as a delegate at the United Nations.
For his continuous service to safeguard Barbados’ interests, he has received several decorations. These include, the Queen’s Jubilee Medal, the Governor-General’s Medal of Honour, the Services Medal of Honour, the General Service Medal and two Defence Board Commendations.
